Posted on Mar 14, 2012 in Browser Games, Online Games

Many people confuse this two terms, so we decided  to explain the differences between them. Online games can be define as games that we play by using the Internet. They can range from simple text based games to games involving complex graphics, special effects, music soundtrack and virtual communities consisting of players from all over the world. As we see, online games are not only technology that allows players to play but also online communities, making online games a form of social activity. During last years they have become more popular because of development in Java and Flash areas and due to the fact that nowadays access to the Internet is common, that most of the people have it. Online games can be divided into:
- strategy games,
- cross-platform games,
- browser games,
- Massively multiplayer online games (MMOG).
On the list above we can find browser games – a computer games that are played over the Internet using a web browser. The same as online games can be single-player or multiplayer. However, among browser games single-player are more common and among online games on the contrary multiplayer. Another difference between them is that, online games can be played over some form of computer networks, not only on the Internet like browser games do. Moreover browser games are often played in more frequent, shorter sessions compared to strategy online games. I hope, that now most of You will understand the differences between online and browser games.

Satisfaction at work

Posted on Mar 13, 2012 in Uncategorized

In a company, in which I work, I am, among many others, responsible for writing texts, which is boisterously called:”copywriting”. Of course I usually play online browser games, but sometimes I have to write something, and there is where problems show their true face. Do you know how hard is it to write about legal stuff in ten different articles? Probably you do not, because you have finished better specializations than me, and now you are doing your accounting or marketing stuff. I tell you – writing about one subject in ten text, throughout whole day is more difficult than anything you know about. I would call it skill game, because it requires more skills and logical predispositions than any online browser game. But there are positive sites of this work – I am very satisfied with the results – only few hours, and Web is ten articles more reach than it was before. My satisfaction will last only till my boss mark quality of those texts, but for now I am happy with my professional life, tired like after playing skill game and I want to share those feelings with you (before I will spend rest of the day playing online browser games). I wish you such satisfaction, maybe even more often! Cheers!

How playing online games helps in career

Posted on Mar 13, 2012 in Browser Games, Online Games, Skill Games

Elliot Noss, Director of Internet domain provided by Tucows, for five months was trained to become a better leader. How? Playing for six, seven hours a week in ”World of Warcraft”.

In “World of Warcraft” are a lot of situations where you have to demonstrate leadership skills - says Noss. When we participate in an attack, which is guided by ineffective leader, it is easy to see how valuable management skills are, the appropriate preparation and establishing a clear hierarchy to know who has what role.
We all believe that playing online browser games is not helping in education or in work and that it is only distracting us.  However, there is a school, according to which, playing online browser games in moderation and in spare time can help us get success in professional life.
It turns out that the best results get young people, who come to the work teams with the experience acquired in the online games all the time. They feel motivated to pursue new challenges and closely track the performance indicators - explains JohnHagel, one of the presidents of the center of technology strategy at Deloitte. Hagel examined the effect of playing online games, such as skill games on young people’s performance in the workplace.Games also pose an unexpected challenge to players and force them to cope with new situations. Players learn how to respond to new challenges and look for them to grow. They also learn how to improvise, which will  make them easier to show their creativity during solving problems that are not described in the company handbook.

Online games from player point of view

Posted on Mar 13, 2012 in Online Games

Official definition of online games sounds “online gaming is a technology rather than a genre, a mechanism for connecting players together rather than a particular pattern of gameplay”. Let’s take a look what this words mean for real players. Are they agree?
1) Jack, 22, Warsaw: “No.. online games are not only a technology. They are more a way of entertainment, addictive gameplay, chance for relieve emotions and internal tension. They always make mu fun, no matter if I have only few minutes to play them or long hours, because of laying sick in my bed. It also easy way to compete with my friend without leaving house, thanks to our favourite games we can be in touch every time”.
2) Philip, 18, Berlin: “To be honest, I have become a fan of online games recently. Why I like them? Mhm.. maybe because of theirs easily available, I can play them every time, even when I stuck in traffic during rush hours or when I wait in queue to a doctor. Thanks God I have got my IPhone and online games!”
3) Anna, 20, Wienn: “Online games more a technology and mechanism for connecting players together? Mechanism?! No way.. I have never thought about them like about mechanism. For sure it is something more. A day without playing is a lost day. Emotions, fun, friends, competition.. all this factors mix in one sentence “online games”.”
As we see, book definitions not always reflect reality.

Travel with games

Posted on Mar 12, 2012 in Uncategorized

Have you ever travelled by bus, let us say from Prague in Czech Republic, to Bratislava in Slovakia? It takes about four hours to get from one capital city to another, so not too long, but if you are two meters high, like me, it is real torture. After an hour it was actually a skill game to somehow persist on this tight sit, because my knees were already stuck in back of a man in front of me, and generally I have been regretting that I didn’t spend more money on plane (which is in fact similarly tight). Fortunately for me and my co-travelers, I had my notebook with wireless connection to the web, so I quickly decided to ease tension by playing online browser games, especially one of my favourite – skill game with shooting elements (that part interested me the most, I was dreaming that I am hurting this fat guy next to me). there is nothing better than gaming in such situation, especially along with listening to laud music. Unfortunately battery lasted only for two hours, so lat one I spent on same stuff as first one – cursing on everything! But, all in all, I reached my destination. I did not mentioned it before, but I tortured myself this way due to romantic two-capitals trip, and I must say, that Prague and Bratislava are relatively cheap, and very, very beautiful! It was worth it! Especially because of occasional buy I performed in the second city. Do you know what I have bought? Yes, that were two additional batteries for my laptop – I had to somehow come back home!

What was the first game ever made? – that is the question..

Posted on Mar 12, 2012 in Browser Games, Online Games

There are numerous debates over what was the first game and who created it. The evolution of games represents technological changes taking place over the years. It all started with a simple video games. The first of them began to appear around 1940s, what mean that more than 70 years ago! However, It is hard to state clearly which game was really the first. There are still ongoing disputes between fans of games and the same time experts in gaming history. In 1947 was created a games called “Cathode Ray Tube Amusement Device”. Long name, huh? It was the earliest known interactive electronic game created by Thomas T. Goldsmith Jr. and Estle Ray Mann. It was a simple kind of simulator inspired by radar displays from World War II. It used analog circuitry, not digital, but for that times it was a real phenomenon! This same year British mathematician Alan M. Turing developed a theoretical computer chess program. Actually he made only a basic program (nowadays called Turing machine) and then his friend Dietrich Prinz wrote it as the first limited program of chess. Unfortunately there was many problems with the “game”, so it was not enough powerful to play a full game. In the picture we can see people playing a “Pong” game. Maybe it was not the first game ever made, but it is one of the earliest arcade video games, that because of its two-demension graphics started to be more common between people, than its predecossors. Many years passed before on the market appeared online games, not to mention browser ones. They start to be popular during 90s. Then become first person-shooter games that allows players to compete with each other using the web. As the World Wide Web developed also browser games become more popular. Next to the many simple, single-player games were creating more complicated, that used web servers to allow to play in a multiplayer games.

Professional players have pilot’s time reaction and smoker’s lungs

Posted on Mar 9, 2012 in Browser Games, Online Games, Skill Games

Research conducted at the University of Essex has shown that professional online game players have a reaction rate comparable to fighter pilots, but they have tragic physical condition.
The studies were conducted by Dr. Dominic Mickelwrighta during Gadget Show Live at NEC, according to the document “eAthletes” created by BBC Radio Four. Dr. Mickelwright, director of sports studies, physical performance and fatigue in the Department of Biological Sciences University of Essex found that although the psychological attitude and time reaction of player reaches levels of professional athletes, the physical condition is much below average. This is not especially surprising in total, but researchers are scared of very poor condition of professional players.
Quoted by Dr. Mickelwrighta example of a player before thirty who looked slim and healthy and had a body which resembles a marathon runner… but he had a lung function and condition of sixty heavy smoker. So as we can see the appearance and time reaction can’t be a determinants of good condition. So if you like playing online browser games or skill games you have to remember that you have to be also physically active. Remeber that sport is very good for our health and after playing online game for few hours go to swim or run for your own good.
